Comedy Tragedy Pendant, Double-Sided Bronze or Sterling Silver
The agony and the ecstasy! This piece started as a custom order for a customer who wanted a reversible version of my popular Comedy Tragedy Necklace.
I've created this piece in two different orientations: one hangs as a reversible piece, with the happy face on one side and sad face on the other, and the other variation hangs to show both faces visible at once, with a side view of each. Please let me know which version you'd prefer at checkout.
I sculpted the piece in wax from my existing models and then created a mold. A plaster mold is made from the wax. Liquid metal is poured into the mold and heated in a kiln to create the final product, which is then tumbled, tumbled, and tumbled again, and polished to bring out the shine. Bronze is available now, and I hope to have a sterling silver version at some point.
The two masks associated with drama represent the traditional generic division between comedy and tragedy. They are symbols of the ancient Greek Muses, Thalia and Melpomene. Thalia was the Muse of comedy (the laughing face), while Melpomene was the Muse of tragedy (the weeping face). Wonderful for theater/film people, actors, directors, mask enthusiasts, or anyone who loves these iconic symbols.
The necklace measures 18" long, but chain can be adjusted upon purchase. Antique brass chain and lobster clasp are secure as well as lead and nickel-free. All sterling silver chain is also available.
