Flowering Sage Pendant, Precious Metal Clay, Fine Silver, Botanical Necklace, Flower Jewelry, Organic Nature, .999 Silver, Sterling Chain
This pendant is hand-crafted from a mold of an actual sprig of sage flowers that are pressed into fine silver clay, formed into shape, and fired in a kiln at 1650 degrees. Once fired, it is polished and then oxidized to bring out the beautiful 3-dimensional plant details. The result is a stunning and versatile pendant that works as well with a t-shirt and jeans as it does with a special dress.
Sage is often mentioned as the herb of immortality, domestic virtue, health, and wisdom. Sage was a sacred ceremonial herb of the Romans. It has been cultivated for both culinary and medicinal purposes for many centuries in Europe. Derived from the Latin word salus, salvia means “healthy.” In Old French and Latin, sage means “wise, knowledgeable, shrewd, skillful".
Metal clay is made from powdered precious metal combined with an organic clay-like binder and water. The clay acts as a binder for the silver and is burned away during firing. This leaves a pendant that is 99.9% pure silver, in contrast to sterling silver, which is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. It is hypoallergenic.
Pendant measures 1 1/4" wide and 3/4" high. It hangs on an oxidized sterling silver chain with lobster clasp. Total length of pendant is about 19" long.
