Laurel Wreath Post Earrings, Bronze or Sterling Silver Leaves
A laurel wreath is a round wreath made of connected branches and leaves of the bay laurel. It is a symbol of triumph, dating back to Greek mythology. I've cast theses beautiful branches in sterling silver, soldered a sterling silver post to each, then tumble polished and applied an oxidizing compound to highlight the leaf patterns. The result is an organic, leafy branch form that can transition from casual to dressy with ease. These versatile earrings can be worn two ways: See the last two photos to see both orientations.
The branch was cast in solid sterling silver using lost-wax casting. I start with a wax model, and then a plaster mold is made from the wax. Liquid metal is poured into the mold and heated in a kiln to create the final product, which is then tumbled, tumbled, and tumbled again, and polished to bring out the shine.
Earrings measure 1 7/8" long, and about .5" wide.
