A 20 gauge copper crescent, a sun, and two droplets are enameled in orange and two shades of teal blue-green, joined with antique copper rings. Antique copper lever back ear wires are secure, as well as lead and nickel-free.
The sun and moon represent different things in different cultures but the one thing that is common in all of them is their polarity. The sun symbolizes firmness, strength and power while the moon represents calmness, beauty, nurturing.
The Sun warms the earth, and with the Moon, creates the tides. The Moon orbits the Earth and in turn, the Earth orbits the Sun. Because they appear to be the same size in the sky, the Sun, Earth and Moon work together to create eclipses. When the Moon is directly in between the Earth and Sun, we see a solar eclipse.
The copper shapes are carefully cleaned and prepared in order to accept the enamel. Then, I apply multiple layers of enamel, which is finely powdered glass. The layers of enamel are fused to the copper on both sides in a 1500 degree kiln. This firing process is repeated several times. Finally, the edges are sanded to expose the copper. And voila .... a vibrantly colored pair of enamel earrings which will make a great gift for yourself or a loved one.
The earrings measure is 1" wide x 2" long from the top of the ear wire.
