Fabulous enamel earrings use a technique called crackle enamel. Several layers are applied to the copper and fired for several minutes, along with a special type of "crackle" glass. This forms a beautiful bubble-patterned surface in shades of green, blue, and red. Along with the free-form abstract shapes, this pair has a great Mid-century Modern vibe that is both elegant and playful. They are one of a kind.
The copper shapes are carefully cleaned and prepared in order to accept the enamel. Then, I apply multiple layers of enamel, which is finely powdered glass. The layers of enamel are fused to the copper on both sides in a 1500 degree kiln. This firing process is repeated several times. Finally, the edges are sanded to expose the copper. And voila .... a vibrantly colored pair of enamel earrings which will make a great gift for yourself or a loved one.
Earrings measure 5/8" in width, and 2 3/4" long. Ear wires are either lead and nickel-free antique copper lever-backs or hand made from 20 gauge oxidized sterling silver.
